There is nothing quite like the feeling of having dropped of all 15 pieces of luggage at the check-in counter and only having to worry about carry-ons for the next 28 hours. I think it is finally starting to settle in that we are actually going to India.
The kids and I arrived in Ottawa from the cottage at around 3 in the afternoon to help T finish packing before heading to the Ottawa airport for our evening flight to London. T had hoped to be organized enough to get to the cottage Tuesday evening after work, but the sheer amount of work conspired against her as well as the fact that she hadn’t really slept the night before. As she finished packing up yet another location the kids were very helpful loading all of our bags to the rental van. We ended up calling a cab because the bags took up the entire back of the van!
And finally we are off to the Ottawa International Airport.
Travelling certainly has changed in the past decades and with laptops, liquids, belts, and shoes having to come out and off in the security line, it took a bit of time and patience, but we made it. Probably didn’t help that T had a small rock of potash from Saskatchewan that she keeps on her desk (gotta rep Western industry!) that had been in her carry-on earlier. She switched it to her checked in luggage but nonetheless some powder residue remained on her bag. Didn’t really occur to her that her bag would then light up at security when it was swabbed for contact with potential explosives.
Between that and K1 winning the random screening lottery (as his brother laughed and mentioned the possibility of internal cavity searches) it took us quite a bit longer than expected to actually get cleared. It was the first time that my preponderance for early arrival at the airport was actually appreciated!
